Car parking charges in Fernhurst are a ‘huge mistake’

THERE is shock in Fernhurst where the recommendation is to introduce charges in Chichester District Council’s car park behind the shops off Vann Road.

Villagers are particularly concerned about the effect on the village doctor’s surgery which shares the car park.

Acting chairman of the parish council Heather Bicknell said: “We think these recommendations are a huge mistake because we have some 58 car parking spaces and a lot of them are used permanently by people who live in the area and going to the doctors’ surgery.

“If these 50 or so cars are suddenly not in the car park and are parked all over the village there is going to be chaos.”

She said parish councillors also wanted to know how CDC worked out their estimate of the £8,500 cost of the car park.

“It is certainly not being spent in the Fernhurst car park,” she said,” there has been no maintenance there and the white lines have almost disappeared.”
