Cathedral bells to ring for royal baby

The bells at Chichester Cathedral will be run to celebrate the birth of Prince George of Cambridge.

Between 2pm and 3pm on Friday, July 26, the cathedral ringers will ring a quarter peal of Cambridge Surprise Major.

This will involve eight bells, and the quarter peal will take about three-quarters of an hour to complete; it also takes about a quarter of an hour either side of the piece to ring up and ring down the bells, said a cathedral spokesman.

An Observer reporter will be there to record a clip of the peal, which will be put on our website tomorrow.
