Women’s World Day of Prayer: This annual service will be on 4th March at St Laurence Church at 2.30pm. This year the service is prepared by the Christian Women of Cuba and is entitled ‘Receive Children. Receive me.’ All are invited to stay for tea and refreshments after the service. Women’s World Day of Prayer started in America in a small way in the mid 1800’s and has now grown to become a truly international Day of Prayer. It has already begun when the sun rose over Samoa and the first service was held and it will go forward as a great wave of prayer that continues to encircle the earth. It is travelling across 170 countries and islands (over 6,000 services will have been held in the British Isles alone) until it reaches the last service to be held at sunset in American Samoa. Come and join in and be part of the circle.

WI: The Catsfield WI will meet next Thursday 3rd March at the winter time of 2pm for the last time before we alter the clocks and revert to British Summertime again – that should gladden everyone’s hearts to feel that hopefully, Spring is here at last and maybe it will stop raining for a while and dry up a bit! Our speaker on Thursday will be Tony Smith who will be talking to us about ‘The Work of the Brownbread Horse Rescue Charity’. You may recall that Tony came to talk to us a few years ago and is returning by popular request. Don’t forget that the competition for this meeting is to make something out of woollen bobbles, come on ladies – rise to the challenge, you CAN do it and there will be a prize for the winner! Visitors and new members are always given a warm welcome at our meetings and there will of course be the usual delicious WI tea to enjoy.

Sport: Football news is good in that we were able to play last week away at Peasmarsh, where we played well but lost 1 - 4 to a team which is higher than us in the league. Actually, as we are still bottom of the table, all other teams are higher than us. Tomorrow we are at home to Herstmonceux, who are top of the league, but we press on undaunted.

School children visit: Next Wednesday, the village plays host to a group of schoolchildren from London. Tony Philcox, their deputy Headmaster, has been organising this visit for a couple of years now and it is a big event in both our calendars. The children enjoy perhaps their only glimpse of farm animals and village life, whilst we share what we love about living in the village. Actually, what they most enjoy is tramping through the mud, so they should be in their element this year. If you catch sight of them, please give them a wave.

Mobile Library: The next visit of the East Sussex Mobile Library will be today, Friday 26th February when once again it will be in its usual place outside the Village Hall from 11.55am – 12.30 pm.
