On Friday, October 30, The Novium Museum will be turned into a 24-hour Inventive Factory, led by Yinka Shonibare, as part of the Museums at Night festival.

The event is inspired by Selsey inventor Colin Pullinger, whose studio was called the Inventive Factory, and Guests Projects, an initiative by the Shonibare Studio which offers artists access to a free project space for one month.

Yinka said: “In the spirit of the Guest Projects ethos – an experimental space that is open to all – we welcome proposals from any artistic discipline, which is based on or inspired by the works in The Novium Museum’s collection.

“This can be done in a number of ways such as film, performance, music, dance, photography, experimental art, fashion.”

In May, The Novium was announced as one of the winners of Culture 24’s national Connect! Museums at Night competition, which asked cultural venues to bid for one of six artists by coming up with an event idea.

Gillian Keegan, cabinet member for commercial services at Chichester District Council, said: “This is a truly unique event and the first time ever that The Novium Museum will be open for a full 24 hours. We are encouraging artists across all mediums to support this event and submit a proposal for an opportunity to work alongside such a renowned and respected artist.”
