A BARN dance will take place in Petworth this weekend to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

As part of his marathon £50,000 fundraising effort, cystic fibrosis (CF) sufferer Rob Sadler
will be hosting the event for the whole community.

Rob’s wife Jan said: “So far we’ve raised £28,000 with the help of many people, including the support and efforts from Rob’s employer, Chandlers Building Supplies.

“It’s truly amazing to think we’ve raised so much, but more importantly, we have raised
the awareness of CF, which is priceless. This last year of fundraising has been an emotional, exhausting, but fun time.”

The dance is this Saturday, May 17, at Butcherlands Farm, Balls Cross, Petworth, from 7.30pm.

Dancing is to the Sussex Barn Dance band The Blue Pilchards, with a licensed bar, a raffle and food included in the ticket price.

Jan added: “Since October Rob has enjoyed some pretty good months health wise, he celebrated his 50th birthday with a party attended by all his family and close friends.

“We all got together and have managed to secure him a flight in a Spitfire which will fulfil a lifelong ambition - he was totally taken back and I don’t think it’s properly sunk in yet. “He’s also got a flight in the spitfire simulator located in Wisborough Green to look forward too as well!

“Unfortunately he is suffering with a chest infection at the moment which means a change to his antibiotic regime and extra physio to clear his chest.

“Although still only half way through his treatment it looks increasingly like he is one of the 30 per cent who have beaten the Mycobacterium bug thanks due to the tireless work of the doctors and nurses at Royal Brompton Hospital, London and the research done by Cystic Fibrosis Trust who we are raising the money for.

“Because of the fund raising we have been in contact with some other pretty inspiring Cf sufferers, one of which is currently in hospital on week nine and has entered a half marathon in September.

“Another is training extremely hard to take part in three triathlons in one week, they will both need oxygen to undertake these and will push themselves to their limits and beyond - total madness I think, but it’s this determination that gets the CF sufferer through the difficult times, they are all truly inspirational people.

“Unfortunately Rob has to set his sights on less strenuous activities due to the heart condition that he is left with as a result of taking one of the drugs to treat his chest.

“He is at risk of sudden cardiac arrest if he does over exert himself.

“He still swims 1000m twice a week but at a slower pace but that is mainly to keep his chest in as best condition as it can be.”

Tickets cost £15 for adults and £5 for children and are on sale at Baytree Bakery, Petworth, by ringing 07587 219988 or by emailing
