VOLUNTEER gardeners at St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Chichester have been praised for their efforts after winning a district-wide competition.
The 20 or so volunteers turn up come rain or shine every Tuesday to work on the hospice’s garden at its base in Grovesnor Road, in Donnington.
They won the best garden for sheltered and residential accommodation in the area in the Chichester and District Residents and Business Garden Competition.
Communications and events manager at the hospice, Jill Dennison said: “They were delighted because it is a great achievement for them.
“They come in every Tuesday in all weathers.
“It does look very beautiful, and for them to have that achievement is great.”
St Wilfrid’s Hospice won a category in last year’s awards, for the best rear garden over 100 square metres.
