Chichester to mark the start of Christmas at big light switch-on

Chichester City Centre will be lit up like a Christmas tree tonight (November 24) at the annual light switch-on.

Residents and visitors can expect an evening of fun-filled activities and music as the city marks the start of the festive season.

Stores will also be kept open until 8pm for late-night shopping.

Sophie Hurst will lead the festive celebrations at 6.15pm, before the blessing of the Rotary Christmas Tree of Goodwill in front of the Market Cross.

The Christmas Tree, donated by Chichester Rotary Club will then be blessed at 6.20pm

Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.30pm in front of the Market Cross by the Mayor of Chichester and sponsor Paul Bishopp of Woodland Crafts Events Management, followed by the annual grand firework display over the cathedral.

At 6.45pm, after the lights switch on and fireworks, New Community Choir will lead the Christmas Carols outside Marks and Spencer on East Street, accompanied by Chichester City Band.

Spirit FM will then keep visitors entertained with street music until 8pm.

Late-night shopping starts tonight and will continue every Thursday until December 22, accompanied by festive activities.

The Christmas Market arrives in Chichester on Saturday, December 3, until Sunday 11, offering a wide range of gift ideas for something a little different for all those stocking fillers.
