Christchurch history walk

A KEY event in the history of a Bexhill church was re-enacted on Sunday.

Christchurch Methodist celebrated the 70th anniversary of members of the Belle Hill Chapel merging with their own congregation.

The group took the same walk worshippers took to Christchurch when they left the chapel for the last time in 1938.

The chapel is now used by a nursery group.

The walk, from Barrack Road to Springfield Road, was followed by a commemorative service.

Organiser Jill Read said: "I suppose I thought about it because my parents where some of the people who were involved.

"I think it is very important we remember because the church is what it is today because of them."

Reverend Roger Leslie added: "Obviously they were people of insight and vision. It is interesting that Belle Hill is still mentioned a lot, it was very much a focal point og the community and people remember that."
