Christian festival in park gets go-ahead

A CHRISTIAN organisation has been given approval to hold a two-day festival in Egerton Park.

Rother councillors gave Churches Together their blessing for the event at their cabinet meeting on Monday, providing police and fire officers are satisfied with health and safety arrangements and Rother's licensing panel approves the entertainment licence application on May 7.

The festival, aimed at younger people, would take place on the weekend of May 30 and May 31.

On the Saturday, there would be a music festival starting in the afternoon and running until 9pm, featuring local bands performing on a stand and finishing with a set by a professional Christian band.

It is suggested that there would be an entrance charge of 5.

On the Sunday two religious services are planned for 11am and 3pm, with scope for visitors to picnic at lunchtime. The festival would end at 6pm.

A smaller festival event run by Churches Together was held at Egerton Park last year.

Councillor Deirdre Williams said she was delighted with the support for the idea, pointing out that it would bring many people into Bexhill and tie in nicely with Bexhill Museum and the De La Warr Pavilion.

She added: "We hope to have a really good event and that it would be a big success."
