Church bells ring out in full

The bells of St Richard's Church will be ringing out across Aldwick this Sunday to celebrate the completion of a project to bring all eight of the church bells into service.

Earlier this month the two extra bells for St Richard's Church were finally brought to the church and blessed in a service led by Bishop Roger Jupp.

As is traditional, incense was burned inside both to make them sound sweeter. After the service, the bells were raised into the bell tower for hanging with the other six, and for the new ropes to be fitted to all eight.

They will be rung for the first time on Sunday, September 23, with a hopeful first quarter peal rung on Thursday.

On the same day as the bells are rung for the first time, a notice board commemorating the event will be on display in the foyer of the church prior to being hung permanently in the balcony of the bell tower. The board consisting of eight separate plaques detailing the history of each bell was constructed and carved by Aldwick resident Paul Bignell with i For Signs supplying the gold artwork.

Thanks have been given to all who helped raise money to enable the project to happen.
