Climping school evacuated due to fire

HUNDREDS of schoolchildren have been forced from classrooms by a fire.

St Mary's Primary School, in Climping, was evacuated at about 10.40am today (Monday, September 20), as was the Bailiffscourt Hotel Court, due to a bonfire, containing two cylinders, in an adjacent field,

A spokeswoman for West Sussex Fore and Rescue Service said that the unattended fire had been burning overnight, but the cylinders were only discovered this morning.

"A 200m corden has been put in place, as a precaution, while the cylinders are cooled down.

"This usually takes some time," she added.

It is not yet known what the cylinders contain, if anything, though it is thought to be oxygen.
