Clothes sale at St Peter's community centre

A lacy flowered dress fit for a wedding or a sharp tuxedo perfect for a dinner dance - all ready to be snapped up for next to nothing.

The nearly-new clothes sale at St Peter's Community Centre is rapidly becoming a firm favourite on the Old Town calendar and included clothes for men and women of all shapes, sizes and styles.

The clothes sale used to be part of the Christmas Fair charity fundraiser but in the last few years has become an event in itself.

Organiser Jill Andrews said: "I love this - clothes are so expensive to buy now, and it's amazing the number of people that give us clothes that still have the tags on and are still new. It seems incredible to me that you can get something like the dress we have that I saw in a shop in Battle for 60.

"This year we have not filled even one small bag with what we call jumble clothes - it has all been nice stuff donated.

"The donations have come in from St Peter's church people, and it all goes to the proceeds of the Christmas fair.

"We used to have the clothes sale at the Christmas fair, but we felt it deserved a morning on its own. So we now have it separately, and people are very generous, and of course this gives us more room for everyone to wander around and try things on."

The Community Centre on Saturday was buzzing with visitors either looking tthrough the rails or sitting down to a well-deserved tea break.

Volunteer Avis Thompsett commented: "We are thrilled that it is dry today. We have got a good crowd in and hope to raise some funds."
