Club welcomes a new president

Tim joined the club five years ago. He hails from Yorkshire and was a founder member of the Bingley Rotaract Club where he met his wife Kathryn. As required by Rotary rules, Tim left Rotaract when he reached the tender age of 28 but continued his voluntary service by becoming a member of Round Table, first in Bingley then Skipton.

In 1994, with a move to East Sussex, came a job working at Hastings College. A reorganisation at the college in 2008 freed him up to become a freelance teacher and he has worked at a number of schools and colleges, most recently Battle Abbey School.

Tim can most often be found following his favourite hobby of DIY, as well as looking after a collection of animals including two Shetland ponies often seen helping promote Rotary events.

Reflecting on the past year, Michael Hodge said the club had achieved a great deal though there had been a tinge of sadness at the passing of two of the club’s most respected members.

He said: “I was particularly proud of the help and support we were able to give to local schoolchildren through the Rotary Youth Speaks and Young Writer competitions.

“Thanks to the generosity of local people we were able to raise more funds than ever through our 1066 Charity Walk, which takes place every year on the last Sunday in September, and our street collection in December. One of the more unusual donations was to the Battle Museum of Local History to help fund the manufacture of a replica of the museum’s axe head, a surviving relic of the Battle of Hastings.”

The club will soon be celebrating its 60th anniversary and would welcome new members.
