Rachel Campbell nominated her five-year-old son, Finnan, for his fundraising efforts.

Finnan regularly bakes cakes to raise money for Macmillan Nurses.

After his mum read him an article about terminally-ill Danny Herbert in the Observer, Finnan decided he also wanted to raise money for the three-year-old’s trip to Disneyland Paris.

Danny has pulmonary atresia with ventricular septial defect – a heart and lung condition which seriously limits his lifespan.

His family has been fundraising to pay for a trip to Disneyland so he can meet his favourite characters.

“I was reading the article and I must have looked sad because he asked me what it was about,” said Rachel.

“He already makes cakes for Macmillan nurses and just said ‘Could we make cakes for him’.”

Finnan made £27 at his cake sale for Danny and received a thank-you note and bag of sweets which ‘made his year’ in return.

“He is adorable, I am so proud of him when he does stuff like that, it is selfless,” said Rachel.

His latest cake sale for the Macmillan Nurses was held on Friday.

Chichester in Partnership consists of public, private, voluntary and community organisations which all want to work together for the benefit of the district.

This year it is sponsoring our best volunteer award.

“The partnership offers a lot of support to the voluntary and charitable sector as we believe voluntary and community groups are often well placed to work with our local communities.

“We are committed to creating a thriving environment for the voluntary and community sector. Volunteers are at the heart of their communities and have a really positive impact on them. This is very important in a rural area such as ours where we have close-knit communities.

“We’re really lucky to have so many volunteers helping local organisations and communities. It is great we can celebrate with this award, raise their profiles and encourage people to volunteer.”
