Concerns mount over dozens of jobs under threat with Clinton Cards going into administration

MAJOR concerns have been expressed as jobs in Worthing, Littlehampton, Bognor Regis and Chichester are under threat with Clinton Cards going into administration.

The chain, which has a total of 750 stores across the country, was forced to make the move by its largest supplier, US firm American Greetings, after calling in the company’s mounting debts.

Zolfo Cooper has been appointed as the administration firm, which will leave jobs at Clinton stores across the area under threat if no buyer for the company can be found.

The administrators revealed that even if a new backer is found for the firm, a number of stores would need to be closed in order to make it sustainable.

The company has a total of more than 8,000 employees across the country, has retail sales of £360 million a year, but owes debts of around £35million.

Karen Simporis, vice president of Worthing and Adur Chamber of Commerce and Industry said the news was a blow to our hard-pressed high streets.
