Continued calls for A27 improvements

PRESSURE is being maintained on the Government to improve the A27 through West Sussex.

Derek Whittington, West Sussex County Council Cabinet Member for Strategic Planning and Transport, and his team have been holding regular meetings with the Regional Transport Board (RTB) to find the best possible solutions for the bottlenecks at Chichester, Arundel and Worthing.

Derek said: "The RTB has been looking to commission several studies in key areas to see what should be included in its programme from 2014 and we have managed to secure top priority for the A27 Chichester to Brighton corridor.

"The Department of Transport have also accepted this as the top regional priority which is really good news."

Now Derek and his team will be working with other authorities and groups to ensure a strong local voice is heard

Derek continued: "I've stressed it shouldn't be a study about what needs to be done along the A27 as that is already abundantly clear to us all, but what can and should be delivered as a priority and within the funding available and this is accepted."

"I'm pleased that, in the current financial climate, it's accepted by the Government that the A27 is a priority and locally we can influence national and local priorities."
