Boys and girls of all ages became head chefs as part of the Cooking with Dad session, at the Angmering Community Centre, in Foxwood Avenue.

The youngsters were charged with cooking a delicious leek and potato pie as part of Saturday’s event (August 10), which was organised by The Organic Cookery School in conjunction with the community centre.

About 16 people took part in the session, lead by organic cookery tutor, Sophie Neish.

The mother-of-three explained that as a parent, it is vital to get your children involved in cooking.

“We’ve seen from Jamie Oliver’s documentaries that there are some children who didn’t know that milk came from cows,” she said.

“So getting your children involved in the cookery process is so, so important if you want them to eat healthy food and to understand where food all comes from.

“Mostly, they really enjoy getting involved. It’s also a great way to build a good relationship with your child.”

The little ‘head chefs’ and their sous chefs spent two hours creating their healthy pies.

Sophie added: “It was a very busy and noisy session but there was a lot of laughter and quite a lot of concentration by everyone.

“The children really loved the chance to boss their parents around, which was great.”

Dee Rumble, administrator at the community centre, said it was important to promote healthy eating in the village.

She said: “As a community centre we just wanted to spread the word about healthy eating and get a lot of people to learn how to cook more healthily.”

Other courses are available at the centre, for those interested in learning how to eat a more healthy diet.

Future Cooking with Dad sessions are also planned to take place on Saturdays, in September.
