Council says put health first

Protests against plans for a new Tetra mast in central Bognor Regis have been made by councillors. Members of Bognor Regis Town Council's planning and licensing committee voted four to one, with one abstention, to object to the proposals.

Telecoms company Airwave Solutions wants to put the mast on top of the town's police station in London Road.

But the town councillors said they believed doubts about the safety of the technology should take precedence. Their view is being sent to Airwave's planning agent, CAP, before the firm submits a formal notification to allow the mast to be put in. This notification will be considered by Arun District Council.

Planning and licensing committee chairman Cllr Jeanette Warr said the proposed mast's location close to Edward Bryant Primary School was a major concern for members. The surrounding roads were also densely packed with housing.
