Councillor urges Midhurst residents to ‘cheer up’ town for jubilee

MIDHURST shopkeepers and householders are being urged to cheer up the town in readiness for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Gordon McAra told fellow members of the town council he believed it was time to throw off the dreariness of the past eight weeks of wet and cold weather and take steps to decorate the town, not only for the coming Queen’s Diamond Jubilee but also for the arrival of the Olympic torch which would be coming through Midhurst on July 16 as part of its journey along the A272 from Rogate and on to Petworth and Duncton.

Colin Hughes told the meeting the events committee would be putting up bunting along Church Hill and Market Square for the town council’s street party.
