Councillors continue fight to save fire station

Bosham councillors are continuing to plea with village residents to help keep their fire station open.

The station in Critchfield Road is temporarily unoperational because there are not enough retained firefighters to man the vehicle if they are called out.

County councillor Louise Goldsmith has been working with the fire brigade on a high profile recruitment campaign which has attracted four possible candidates, but more are still needed.

She told parish councillors last week: "At the moment, the problem is finding people who live or work within four minutes of the station and who pass the fitness test."

Parish councillor Bob Probee said: "It is not just Bosham where the fire station is useful.

"If there is something big happening in Chichester taking up their resources, the Bosham engine is able to cover the neighbouring villages as well."
