Countdown to return of bbb10k

THERE are just over two weeks to go until the return of one of the biggest events in Battle’s sporting calendar.

Battel Bonfire Boyes are busy preparing for their annual 10k race around the town on Sunday September 7.

The race, which the Boyes have organised since 2009, has grown to become one of the most popular 10k runs in the area. The course is suitable for both fun and serious runners.

Prior to the 10k is the junior race for those aged 11-15, which takes place at 9.30am within the High Street.

Runners receive great support from spectators who line the route and on the Abbey Green, where the race finishes, the Bonfire Boyes provide a barbecue and refreshments for those waiting for the runners to return.

Matt Southam, BBB spokesperson, said: “The 10k is another great event in Battle’s calendar and there will be plenty of runners taking part to raise money for their own chosen charity, so while BBB organise the event as a fundraiser lots of other charities benefit from it too.

“Even if you are not the running type I would encourage spectators to make their way to the High Street to cheer on the runners and soak up the atmosphere.”

A road closure will operate in the High Street between 9.20-9.40am and again between 9.50-10.15am with stop and go boards from 10.30-11.15am. Powdermill Lane will be closed from 10-10.45am.

Entry to the 10k is still open.

To book your place, visit www.bbb10k.co.uk or on the day at the registration desk on the Abbey Green from 8.30am.
