COUNTY NEWS: Firefighters battle thatched cottage fire through the night

Firefighters remain on the scene after battling through the night to extinguish a blaze in the roof of a thatched cottage in Sussex.

The fire took hold of the property, in Shripney Lane, Shripney, near Bognor Regis, at around 4.30pm yesterday, Monday, April 4.

Around 14 fire crews from across West Sussex, along with specialist crews, spent more than 15 hours fighting the flames at the cottage, which is believed to have been built in the 17th century.

Fire officers and crews from Midhurst, Bognor and Worthing remain on the scene this morning.

It is not yet clear if the fire is fully extinguished and the cause is not yet known.
