The National Farmers’ Union (NFU) South East Crops Board chairman Matt Culley said: “This year rural roads seem to be busier than ever because hay making is late and now harvest is underway as well.

“It’s a case of give and take – everyone has a right to be on the roads so it’s important to be considerate and courteous to one another.

“Please be patient if you find yourself driving behind a slow moving tractor, a combine harvester or a cultivator.

“Remember farmers are working around the clock to deliver your daily bread and to produce food for livestock.”

Mr Culley added: “The NFU is also reminding its farmer members to check their mirrors frequently and to pull over if they see a queue building up behind them.”

The NFU produces a business guide for its members on harvest machinery movements.
