COUNTY NEWS: Three '˜Iranian nationals' rescued from boat off Sussex coast

Three men, believed to be Iranian nationals, were rescued from a boat off the Sussex coast this morning, the Home Office has said.

HMC Seeker along with the Coastguard were called to rescue the men off the coast of Hastings at around 9.30am.

A spokesman for the Home Office said: “Border Force was contacted at 9.30am this morning, Saturday 11 June, by the Coastguard informing us that three individuals in a small boat required assistance.

“HMC Seeker was deployed immediately and has picked up the individuals onboard who are believed to be Iranian nationals. The group will now be processed.”

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency said a RNLI Hastings lifeboat and the HM Coastguard helicopter, based at Lydd, were also called to assist.

The incident has been left with UK Border Force.
