COWDRAY Farm Shop and Café at Easebourne has been awarded the title of best on-farm café and restaurant by this year’s judges in The National Farmers’ Retail and Markets’ Association (FARMA) awards.
Cowdray was chosen from contenders from across the country for what judges called “the outstanding quality and provenance of its food.”
The Cowdray Farm Shop Café was proud of its provenance said farm shop manager Fiona Hamilton-Fox: “its organic beef from Hereford, Sussex and Belgian Blue crosses reared at Cowdray Home Farms, wild fallow deer from the Estate’s woods, bread and cakes baked fresh every day using the Estate’s organic wheat, organic milk, eggs, lamb and pork also come from the farm, and an onsite smokery is used to create wood-smoked salmon and bacon.”
“We are really pleased to have won such a prestigious award,” added Mrs Hamilton-Fox, “which recognises all the hard work and passion that goes into making delicious food from scratch. It is a credit to all the team here, from the farmers in the field to the chefs in the kitchen.”
Awards judge and former FARMA award winner Andre Birkett said: “Cowdray is a beautiful and stylish example of the kind of farm shop café that’s making people sit up and take notice. The food is delicious, made on-site, and packed with ingredients from the Estate, local farms and local producers.”
