Cowdray park jubilee plaque goes missing

A plaque above Benbow Pond, recording the planting of an avenue of lime trees, by the Cowdray Estate, to commemorate the Queen's diamond jubilee in 2012 has been stolen.

The plaque set on a natural wooden base, was taken from its site near the style on the Midhurst Way above Benbow Pond in Cowdray Park.

The lime trees now stand six feet high and still in their deer shield march majestically uphill from Stewards Pond in to the direction of Lodsworth following the line of the Midhurst Way, which is a 29 mile long path created in October 2010.

Chief executive of the Cowdray Estate Jonathan Russell said the estate was in the process of replacing the plaque.
