Cream of the crop put through their paces

The 21 children have been selected for a gifted and talented programme being run by Bognor Regis Community College as part of its sports college status.

Those who fulfil their potential will have the chance to join Team Elite which recognises those who could take part in regional and national competitions.

The first of two sessions being hosted by the college at the neighbouring Arena sports centre took place last week.It was led by Ali Wakefield, a senior lecturer at the University of Chichester.

She put the ten and 11 year olds through their paces using speed, agility and quickness tests.

This was followed by fitness testing tailored to their ages where the pupils could see which sporting activities their fitness best suited.

The participants came from the college's family of schools.

Rachel Mackinney, a PE advanced skills teacher at the college, said: 'The sessions will give these talented children from the primary schools the opportunity to meet and work with other gifted students.

'Fitted around the activity sessions will also be educational workshops looking at themes like lifestyle management, nutrition and healthy living.'

The second session is planned for this June.
