Crime figures falling

THE best crime reduction figures in East Sussex have been achieved by police in Rother.

Chief Inspector Steve Brookman says: "I am pleased to be able to report that for the current rolling year Rother have achieved the best reductions for total crime in East Sussex, at 9.5%.

"We have obtained reductions of 20.4% for burglary dwelling, 1.7% for violent crime, 19% for vehicle crime and 9.2% for criminal damage.

"These are fantastic reductions in crime and are testament to the hard work of our officers and staff on Rother District.

"The newly formed East Sussex Division Licensing Unit are now based at Bexhill Police Station and we have already benefited with positive action for Rother in the form of a new licensee for Bar One in Bexhill, following a spate of problems at the premises, and an action plan having been developed for Pontins in Camber in preparation for the forthcoming holiday season.

"You will have noted from the press that we have recently carried out a number of successful cannabis warrants in Bexhill."

The Chief Inspector says success in detecting these has been largely due to intelligence obtained from conscientious members of the public liaising with our officers.

"This proves just how important and effective our strong links with the community are."
