A teenage girl was raped in Chichester yesterday (Sunday, June 24).
A man has been arrested after the alleged attack in a grassy area off Kingsham Road shortly before midnight.
The 28-year-old is being held by police.
A statement from Sussex Police today (Monday, June 25) read: “Police arrested a man after a 16-year old girl reported being raped in a grassed area beside Kingsham Road, Chichester, near Chichester High School of Boys, shortly before midnight on Sunday, June 24.
“Police swiftly searched the area and went to an address in the same road just after midnight, where they arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of rape.
“He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.
“The enquiry is still at an early stage and the full circumstances have not yet been established.
“The girl did not receive any physical injury and has been interviewed by specially trained detectives.”
