CCTV footage released after Chichester Waitrose purse theft

Police have issued an image of a man and a woman wanted in connection with the theft of a purse at a Chichester supermarket.

According to Sussex Police, at about 4.40pm on Tuesday (October 4), a 57-year-old local woman was shopping at Waitrose in Via Ravenna when she realised her purse had been stolen from her handbag, which was attached to her trolley.

A spokesperson from Sussex Police said: “CCTV footage appears to show a man and a woman follow the victim around the store.

“When she is not looking, the woman snatches her purse and hides it under a loaf of bread she is holding.”

The purse contained approximately £30 in cash, in addition to the victim’s driving licence and her recently obtained driving instructor licence, police added.

The female suspect is described as a white woman of slim build and shoulder length brown hair, wearing a knee-length white jacket and light coloured jeans.

The male suspect is described as a white man of medium build and mostly bald. He was wearing an open khaki jacket over a black top, and light coloured jeans.
