A 66-year-old cyclist has died after being struck by a car in Eastbourne.
Police appealed for witnesses after the victim was in collision with a black BMW 525 D Sport in Victoria Drive at about 2.55pm on Tuesday (December 29).
The driver, a 47-year-old man from Eastbourne, was uninjured.
He was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.
Sergeant Peter Verney from the Surrey and Sussex road policing unit said: “We are very keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this collision and in particular anyone who may have seen the cyclist in the area in the time leading up to it.
“He was quite distinctive, being an older gentlemen, wearing a cloth cap and with a blue Cobalt mountain bike with a basket on the front.
“If you do have information about this tragic incident, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 101 quoting Operation Aveley.”
A police spokesman said the driver had been bailed until March 23.
The road was closed while rescue, recovery and investigative work took place.
It was reopened shortly before 7.30pm.
