Small Planet Airlines flight S5115C was due to take off at 9.10am, but was delayed because one of the cabin crew was missing.

A statement from Sussex Police said: “At 9.05am on Monday (11 July) police at Gatwick Airport were made aware that an airline crew member had failed to report for duty and there were concerns for his welfare.

“His absence meant that the airline’s scheduled 9.10am flight to Corfu was unable to take off.

“The 45-year-old man, from London, eventually arrived at 10.40am. Due to the fact that he smelled strongly of alcohol, he was not permitted to board the aircraft and was arrested on suspicion of acting as a member of the crew of an aircraft while under the influence of alcohol.

“He was bailed to return on September 8.”
