Detectives investigating ‘serious’ sexual assault in Billingshurst

A woman was forced to the ground and sexually assaulted while walking in Billingshurst in the early hours of this morning (Thursday August 20).

The attack, which Sussex Police have described as a ‘serious’ sexual assault, happened between 12.30am and 1am.

Police said the 25-year-old woman was walking along the footpath between Carpenters and Station Road when she was attacked.

The man forced her to the ground and carried out the assault before making off, police added.

He is described as about 5’9”, slim, with a pointed nose, wearing a light blue jacket, white or grey polo top and blue jeans.

Officers cordoned off part of the area near Station Road this morning to investigate the incident.

Detectives are not linking the offence with other recent sexual assaults in the Horsham area ‘at this stage’.

Detective sergeant Chris Leech said: “Enquiries are at an early stage but this is an isolated incident for this area and we are not connecting it with any other offences at this stage.

“If you were in that area in the early hours of Wednesday and saw what happened or saw a man of that description nearby, please contact us via [email protected] or call us on 101, in either case quoting serial 0132 of 20/08.”
