BOSSES at Midhurst and Easebourne Football Club are on the warpath, after vandals reduced an outdoor table and its integral benches to ‘a heap of kindling wood’.
Now a £200 reward has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the culprits for criminal damage.
Club chairman Darren Chiverton said: “We bought two tables and benches two to three weeks ago.
“ They’re the sort you find in pub gardens.
“When we left the ground on Saturday at about 8pm, they were all right. No one noticed anything on Sunday morning, but by 3.30pm on Sunday, one of them had been badly damaged.
“It looks as though it has been turned upside down and the timbers jumped on until it smashed. It’s a heap of kindling on the floor. It will cost us £250-£300 to replace.”
The club has a relaxed approach to informal use of its Rotherfield ground at Easebourne. There is a locked gate at the entrance to prevent vehicles getting in but it is accessible to pedestrians.
Mr Chiverton said: “We don’t want to get to the point where we have to fence it off. If the local lads went to play football and they behave themselves, we don’t want to stop that.”
