Man named and charged after armed robbery at Westbourne shop

A man is due to appear in court today (Wednesday, June 3) after an armed robbery at a shop in Westbourne, Sussex Police has revealed.

Officers were called to the Co-op store at The Square at around 6.25pm on Sunday, May 24, to a report of a man entering the shop with a machete and stealing cash from the tills.

Following the robbery, police released CCTV images of the suspect.

In a statement today, a spokesperson said: "Sam Hewett, 30, of Renown Gardens, Waterlooville, was arrested on Tuesday (June 2) and later charged with robbery.

"He was remanded in custody and will appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday."
