Midhurst and Petworth police mount special patrols to stamp out raves

POLICE are mounting special patrols across the Midhurst and Petworth area throughout the May bank holiday weekend in a bid to stamp out illegal raves.

Head of the area’s district neighbourhood police team Sgt Chris White appealed to members of the public to be alert and report any suspicious activity: “This could include the removal of locks from secured access points, vehicles, particularly panel vans or larger driving off-road, groups of vehicles congregating in rural areas, convoys or loud music from remote woodland.”

He said police were working with large landowners who would also be monitoring activity on their land and officers would be making special checks of areas where raves had taken place in the past. Receiving early warnings gave police a better chance of disrupting the rave.

Anyone who has information about illegal raves or those involved should contact Sussex Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
