One of south east’s most wanted burglary suspects arrested


One of the most wanted burglary suspects across the south east has been arrested and charged with a series of offences including burglaries which took place in Chichester, Barnham and Burgess Hill, Sussex Police has said.

Simon Knights, of no fixed address, was arrested in Great Yarmouth on Friday June 26 after an investigation involving officers from Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire, Essex and the Metropolitan Police.

The 39-year-old has been charged with 13 burglaries and one attempted burglary and has been remanded in custody to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today (Monday June 29).

The burglaries were committed at:

- Park Road, Burgess Hill, on June 19 2014

- Downview Road, Barnham, on June 16 2014

- Oving Road, Chichester, on June 12 2014

- Downview Road, Barnham, on June 16 2014

- Elm Grove, Barnham, on June 16 2014

- Ancton Lane, Bognor Regis, on June 25 2014

- Watling Road, Southwick, on June 18 2014

- Barnham Road, Eastergate, on June 16 2014

- Woodruff Avenue, Guildford, Surrey, on April 8 2015

- Townscourt Crescent, Orpington, Kent, on November 26 2014

- Hayes Barton, Southend, Essex, on July 23 2014

- Westbrook Avenue, Margate, Kent, on July 15 2014

- Tilmore Road, Petersfield, Hampshire, on July 3 2014

The attempted burglary was in Barnham Road, Barnham, on June 16.

Sussex Police launched Operation Magpie to tackle burglary across the county.
