Police meetings to tackle Bognor yobs

Street briefings are being held in an area of Bognor Regis to help residents defeat the yobs.

The sessions are taking place at neighbouring Hastings Close, Lewes Close and Bramber Close at 10am, 11am and midday on January 22.

The get-togethers have been organised by the police to enable those who live in the roads to speak about their crime concerns, let them know what can be done about tackling the issues and to give them advice about what they can do.

They are part of a co-ordinated approach being taken by the police, Arun and Bognor councils and West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, among other agencies.

They have formed a local action team under the chairmanship of town councillor Pat Dillon.

Bognor police station’s Inspector Clare McKnight said: “There are elements of anti-social behaviour around those roads.

“We’ve had reports people regard them as no-go areas and that they are not bothering to report incidents because they don’t feel anything will get done.

“We want to get rid of that attitude with peoples’ help and to ensure people take some responsibility for themselves as well.

“There seems to be a lack of community spirit in the neighbourhood and people’s confidence in it needs to be improved.”
