UPDATE: Policeman in court for murdering partner

A former policeman has appeared in court this morning accused with murdering his partner.

Peter Foster, 35, appeared at Worthing Magistrates Court, after being charged with murdering mother of two Detective Constable Heather Cooper yesterday (Wednesday, October 19) afternoon.

His case has been referred to Lewes Crown Court, where he will appear tomorrow, Friday, October 21.

The court was told he is accused of murdering Miss Cooper at 27 West Street, in Haslemre where the two lived.

The 33-year-old’s body was found by police in Blackdown Woods near Lurgashall on Sunday evening (October 16).

Surrey Police said a post-mortem examination found she died from a blow to the head and a stab wound to the throat.

Miss Cooper, who joined Surrey Police in 2003 and worked in the Public Protection Investigation Unit based at Guildford police station, was described as an “exceptional officer” who was “much loved” among her colleagues.

She was on maternity leave from the force at the time of her death.
