Vandals attack new Fittleworth bus shelter

FITTLEWORTH parish councillors are counting the cost of vandalism to the newly renovated bus shelter on The Fleet.

The last meeting of the council in the village pavilion was told the shelter had been recently completed with the installation of a smart new waste bin at the entrance.

Vandals attacked the bin, tearing off the lid and throwing it onto the recreation ground, then daubed fresh graffiti on the newly-painted walls of the shelter.

Parish councillors heard the bin had now been reinstated and was now being used, keeping the shelter neat and tidy.

The vandalism, as well as drinking and smoking by under-age youths using the shelter in the early evenings, had been reported but no police presence had yet been evident.
