Witnesses sought after sword attack in Selsey

Police are investigating an incident in Lawrence Close, Selsey, which occurred at around 6.20pm yesterday (Wednesday (17 February) and involved a man and woman being attacked in an alleyway by a man wielding a sword

A Sussex Police statement says that the victims sustained cuts and bruises and were taken by ambulance to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, for treatment.

The woman was later allowed home but the man remains in hospital.

None of the injuries are considered life-threatening or life-changing. Those involved are known to each other.

Police searched the area and several hours later, following further enquiries, officers located the suspect in King’s Road, Brighton.

A 52-year-old man from Selsey has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. He is currently in police custody awaiting questioning. A weapon believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered.
