Energy assessment isn't the most glamorous field of work.

But Daisy Drake was granted some glitz when she accepted a prestigious industry award at a ceremony held at the Brighton Hilton Hotel.

Daisy, from Sompting, won the South East Energy Assessor of the Year award for her work, which sees her visiting commercial properties and people’s houses to carry out energy assessments.

She was chosen over her fellow nominees for the number of energy efficiency reports she had completed – more than 800 in a year, or roughly two every day.

Unsurprisingly, Daisy said one of the secrets to her success was hard work, and added that it was ‘nice to be recognised’ for what she does.

“It’s one of those industries that no-one likes, like tax men and parking attendants.

People can be negative about it, but I’ve been able to stay in the business and change people’s opinions of what I do.

“I’m always polite, and I always sit down and explain what the report means so people know how they can use it to get a better efficiency rating. Most of the time I get to talk to lovely people and play with people’s pets – it’s great.”

Daisy took on the job after she left the print industry in London and moved to Sompting.

“It was fate – the job I do now was created a year-and-a-half after I moved here. It was something completely different to what I was doing before so I went for it.”

She now hopes to specialise into making building projects energy efficient.
