Daniel joinsmagazinejournalists

Parishioners in Middleton could soon be reading an article about their church by their youngest correspondent.

Daniel Riley (10)has written a report about one of the Lenten talks at St Nicholas Church. He hopes it will be published in the parish magazine. Daniel asked his parents to specially attend the evening service which featured Judge Robin Barrett QC.

'I wanted to go to the church to get more information for the article I wanted to write. I've written about what happened in the church,' said Daniel. 'The judge talked about Jesus facing the law and the court.'

The article builds upon Daniel's membership of the junior writers' club at Bishop Tufnell CE Junior School.

He has belonged to the club, run by teacher Pat Frewin, for the past nine months. Daniel said: 'I like making poems and writing stories. It's interesting and it gets your brain working.'

The after-school sessions on Mondays have involved asking questions and writing articles about other pupils' imaginery jobs.

Daniel was a 21-year-old policeman and his article was based on the experiences of a pirate aged 19.

He also had the chance to visit the News Centre in Portsmouth, where the Observer is published, and write an article for a special newspaper with the other club members.
