AFTER a long wait, work is set to commence on the development at the former St Margaret’s Convent School in Midhurst.

Senior development manager at Affinity Sutton Matthew Beard said: “It’s all systems go and people will notice quite a lot happening.”

He confirmed this week a contract had been awarded to a called the Drew Smith Group, based in Southampton.

He said the company had taken possession of the site.

“In terms of actual work and demolition we’re expecting that to be around the end of June,” he said.

Currently, black hoarding has gone up in front of the former school and scaffolding is being erected around the Regency Villa building on the site, which will be retained.

Mr Beard said the new site should be completed by January 2015.

The site will provide a number of homes for the town.
