Don't hesitate to vaccinate says NFU chief

AGRICULTURE is on the verge of a recovery but bluetongue is a severe threat to the lifestock sector.

That's the belief of new West Sussex NFU chairman Tom Tupper.

The sheep and arable farmer, who has 2,100 acres at Bignor says farmers will become increasingly important to society in the future.

"I have just returned from the NFU's centenary conference and there is quiet confidence in the future. The numbers of people in farming continue to decline because it is an ageing industry, but the young people I met are enthusiastic about farming and excited by the opportunites that lie ahead," said Mr Tupper.
