The couple, from Hambrook, first met in Easebourne, when Michael was home on leave from the Navy and Barbara was training to be a nurse.

Marriage followed a few years later and the couple went on to have four children and five grandchildren.

Being in the Navy meant quite a few prolonged periods away from home, in fact Michael did not meet his first born until she was nine months old.

Barbara worked as a home help in the area for many years and when Michael left the Navy as a Lieutenant Commander, he retired to an even busier life.

The couple have travelled extensively, including a two-year posting in Singapore and enjoying many holidays with friends and family.

They built their own home in Broad Road 11 years ago. Both have been very involved in DIY projects for their children and grandchildren, felling trees, building walls and painting. They also enjoy walking and gardening.
