Driest month in seven years

It had been seven years in Bognor Regis since an August had been as dry as last month.

Just 39.1mm fell compared to the seasonal average of 49.63mm. Only one day '“ the 14th '“ saw a significant amount of rain with 12.5mm.

The amount of sunshine in the month also beat the seasonal average, though only just.

It totalled 241.7 hours, thanks to almost 151 hours in the first half, to exceed the expected 232.2 hours.

Temperatures were the only aspect of the weather measured at Bognor Regis Town Council's Waterloo Square weather station to match the average.

The mean maximum temperature was 20.1C, which was exactly the same seasonal norm, and the minimum of 13.9C was marginally above the 13.6C average.

The warmest day of the month was the 26th at a pleasant 23C/73.4F and the coolest were the 13th and 30th with a chilly 9C/48.2F.
