Drink-drive warning from Bexhill Police

Three drink-related traffic incidents in succession in Bexhill have prompted a police warning: "DON'T drink and drive - we are vigilant."

A driver was arrested for a suspected drink-driving offence after a car demolished keep left bollards outside the police station on Sunday night.

Another driver was arrested for drink-driving after being stopped by a police patrol in Jameson Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A third motorist was breath-tested after a car demolished a lamp post in Cooden Drive in the early hours of Tuesday morning but was just under the limit.

Inspector Max Mosley said: "This week there has obviously been a substantial increase in accidents involving drink-driving.

"Clearly, drink is a significant factor in accidents and this is why we run campaigns.

"Although our customary Christmas/New Year anti-drink/drive campaign has not started, we are still vigilant.

"The police message to the public is 'Please DON'T drink and drive. It causes us more work - and road-users unnecessary tragedy.

"Ask anyone who has been disqualified for drink-driving what it is like later to try and get insurance. The financial cost is tremendous. But you can never adequately count the cost to a family which is bereaved."
