Driver's amazing escape

A WOMAN driver survived this spectacular crash.

The black BMW 320i struck a lamppost, flipped on to its roof and ran into a parked MGF car.

The crash closed Cooden Sea Road near Cooden Beach Station on Monday afternoon.

Painter and decorator Roger Siggery was working on the front of a property on the corner of Cooden Sea Road and The Gorses when the crash happened.

He said: "I had just sat down to my buttered tea-cake which the customer had kindly given me when I heard a car approaching.

"The next thing I knew whoosh-bang this BMW had hit the lamp post and turned on its lid!"

Bystanders helped the driver from the wreck of her car. She was taken to the Conquest Hospital by ambulance but her injuries were described as 'not serious.'

Leading Firefighter Graham Hobden said: "We weren't required to cut the driver out, just to make the vehicle safe."

PC Tony Masters of the Sussex Police Road Policing Unit at Bexhill is appealing for any witnesses to contact him at the Road Policing Unit at Bexhill on 0845 6070999.

"We know that there was a Land Rover waiting to let other vehicles through." Police have not released the name of the driver who is believed to live in the Brighton area.
