Earnley travellers site application withdrawn

A controversial application for a traveller’s site was withdrawn at the eleventh hour after councillors raised concerns about a number of objections and ‘inadequate information’.

An application for a gypsy and traveller site in Earnley was due to go before the Chichester District Council (CDC) planning committee on Wednesday, August 19.

The proposals have long caused a long-standing rift between some residents in the area.

The application sought to use the land as a caravan site, with four gypsy and travellers pitches, on land at Marsh Farm Barn in Drove Lane, Earnley.

However it will now be resubmitted as an application for three caravans, with a revised site development scheme and location plan.

Planning officers had recommended councillors refuse the application.

The plans have received several objections online, including from Peter Chandler who said he ‘strongly objected’ to the proposal.

Mr Chandler added: “I would urge the council to reject any further proposal relating to the use of the site in question and to take immediate action to enforce what has clearly been a breach of planning control.”
